Angry Man of Africa
President Robert Matibiri aka Mugabe has been calling on Tony Blair to leave Zimbabwe alone again, without realising that today is Tony Blair's last day in office - which is going to leave him with Gordon Brown, a virtual missionary for Africa, to bash.

He also threatened companies which continue to raise prices "without any justification" and said his party will stay in power come what may, in a Heroes' Acre graveside speech for the fallen Commander of 1 Brigade, Brigadier General Armstrong Gunda.

Put Zim on Agenda
UK residents, starved of information about what is going on at home, were generally impressed with the MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai's address in which they say he showed magnanimity while not compromising on matters of principle.

Magnanimously he offered reconciliation and an open door policy to both Zanu (PF) supporters and the MDC splinter group led by Arthur Mutambara.

But he said negotiations with Zanu (PF) would go on while the people were continuing to demand free and fair elections through mass action or "Jambanja".

Industry In the Hands of Ex-Combatants?

Zanu (PF) wants war veterans to take over companies that have closed because of viability problems in the party’s efforts to buy the ex-combatants' support ahead of next year’s presidential and parliamentary elections -  elections which the government is trying to convince the international community will be free and fair.

The government has already turned ex-combatants - architects of the violent land seizures - into a reserve force in a bid to increase military presence ahead of next year’s elections.

Their constitution into a formal reserve force has been criticised for the fact that the state is funding the restive liberation war fighters who recently threatened not to support the party in the forthcoming elections, but who represent a politically aligned military force.
