PM and Mrs Tsvangirai voting in Harare today in a referendm that is supposed to put Zimbabwe on the road to a democratic election. Early indications are that the Yes Vote is 20 times the No Vote.

MDC-T Mbare candidate Sten Zvorwadza was attacked together with a BBC crew that was covering his campaign in the volatile suburb.
Although he escaped uninjured and reported the attack at the local police station, no report was taken and the Zanu-PF supporters who attacked him while campaigning for a "Yes" vote in the referendum are still free.

Zanu PF is guilty of many things – the collapse of the economy, the genocide of Ghukurahundi and the wholesale destruction of homes in Murambatsvina.Everybody recognises these as gross human rights abuse and crimes against humanity. But when their outlandish actions are associated with, not only the ruthless pursuit of their political ends but also with wholesale theft and lawlessness, then we need to sit up and take notice. |

Recent announcements by Vice-President Joyce Mujuru and the Foreign Minister Simbarashe Mbengegwi that foreign observers would not be allowed for the referendum and election were just expressions of their wishes as Zanu (PF) members.
In reality no single party can decide this, and so far the Principals have not agreed a position, said Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday. |
