Zimbabwe has been rocked by reports that the Minister of Mines, Obert Mpofu, who famously showed contempt for a Parliamentary Portfolio Committee, investigating diamond mining, and has long been suspected of being corrupt, actually demanded a bribe from a would-be joint venture partner in diamond mining. The report in Newsday also says President Robert Mugabe was told about Mpofu's demand for a bribe and apparently did nothing about it.
