MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai has demanded that Media Minister Webster Shamu, institutes urgent media reforms that were agreed between him, President Mugabe and the other Principal, Arthur Mutambara. The MDC reported that President Tsvangirai told Shamu in a Council of Ministers meeting that there was need to collapse the State Media as it continued to use hate language with a special focus on him and other senior MDC officials.
“Clearly Zanu PF has embarked on a provoke and disperse strategy against MDC,” he said, continuing the theme at an MDC organising workshop, but, he added, the MDC national leadership would not will not be divided nor provoked.
Members should remain steadfast against Zanu PF machinations and not be provoked into taking unprepared action which will lead the party astray.
“Zanu PF wants the inclusive government to collapse so that they can call for elections without implementing all the necessary reforms which will ensure a free and fair election, because Zanu (PF) knows that it will lose in a free and fair election,“ he said.
In this watershed year leaders had to be fearless and courageous and know their roles and responsibilities in the party, while shunning factionalism which is caused by lack of education and knowledge about one‘s role.
Corruption should be guarded against as it destroys the MDC brand that the people of Zimbabwe and the international community feel they can invest in, resiliently believing in the MDC despite the challenges that the party has faced.
In this watershed year, he said Zimbabweans should remember when the party was formed in 1999, with people united in the knowledge that the country needed to take a new direction from that which Zanu PF was offering.
“There was a new mood and people were consulted which meant that it was a process not an event in which it took men and women of conviction to take on Zanu (PF) in trying to change the establishment”.
Forming the inclusive government was a strategic move that was necessary, he said .
