MsipaThe ban of political rallies in the most inhabited parts of Zimbabwe, mainly the cities, was introduced by the Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner a few weeks ago - under the Public Order and Security Act (POSA), following recent violent clashes between protesters and the police.

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has responded to threats by State Security Minister Didymus Mutasa to crush planned protests in April by saying he is uninformed and that the ZCTU will not be intimidated.

“It boggles the mind how the planned stay away can start a “war” as alleged by Mutasa in an interview with ZimOnline," said Wellington Chibebe, the ZCTU Secretary General.

Zimbabwe National Student Union, (Zinasu) President, Promise Mkwananzi, and other members of his executive will be appearing in Court 6 at Rotten Row Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Wed).

Others appearing with him are University of Zimbabwe SRC Secretary General Maureen Kademaunga, and National University of Science and Technology SRC Legal Secretary Lawrence Mashungu who are also facing charges of contravening the Public Order and Security Act (POSA).

The Vigil marked President Mugabe’s birthday with a performance by Zimbabwean protest singer Viomak, who sang several songs from her new album “Happy 83rd Birthday President R G Mugabe (bones of a 30 year old)".

Everyone joined in as she sang “Gono Bvisa Father Zero (Gono remove Father Zero [Mugabe])”. It came as no surprise therefore that the Zimbabwean Embassy did not accept her invitation to attend the launch of the new album.
